Sanitary Tri-Clamp® Sizing Guide

EPDM / -20 to 300 °F
Provides superior properties for high-temperature applications and is resistant to animal and vegetable oils, ozone, steam, water, and oxygenated solvents.
EPDM is recommended for CIP Sanitizing Agent Oxonia and for ozone treated water applications.
Do not use EPDM gaskets for mineral oils, solvents, or aromatic hydrocarbons.
Viton® (FKM) / -30 to 400 °F
Generally has higher chemical resistance than most elastomers.
FKM have excellent compatibility with strong acids.
Not recommended for continuous use in SIP (steam in place) procedures. (See Tuf-Steel® for steam application)
PTFE (a.k.a. Teflon™) / -100 to 500 °F
PTFE has great chemical resistance, and there are few products that won’t work with it.
(Not recommended where large temperature variations occur frequently, leakage can occur).
Has no memory and can “cold flow,” causing it to change shape when compressed.

Silicone Platinum-Cured/-40 to 450 °F
Chemical resistance to a variety of common chemicals, including acids, bases, and steam.
Is not always a good choice with oils

When Teflon™ gasket is not feasible due to severely misaligned fittings.

Buna N (White color)/-30°F to 250°F
Buna N is the last choice in most applications due to temperature limitations and does not pass U.S. Pharmacopeia Class VI Certification and Cytotoxicity.
Recommended for petroleum-based fluids and many hydrocarbons like Butane, fats, oils, and greases.
Not recommended for strong acids and ozone.

EPDM/Metal  (Metal and X-ray Detectable) / -20 to 300 °F
Maintain the EPDM physical and chemical properties.

Tuf-Steel® / -350 to 550 °F

  • Excellent in steam applications
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • 500 CIP/SIP Cycles guaranteed
  • Excellent expansion/contraction stability with minimal thermal expansion
  • Non pigmented

Tuf-Flex® (Teflon™ + EPDM)/-20 to 300 °F
Unlike pure PTFE gaskets or even other sheathed gaskets, Tuf-Flex® will not creep or cold flow over time and therefore maintains the integrity of its seal in your process line.  Remember Teflon™ has no memory and this is the reason that Tuf-Flex® were created.
